Successful Completion of the 2006/07 Sector-Specific Programme for the Medical and Health Sector (TaoYuan)

Hong Kong 8 January 2010 - ISIA announced today the successful completion of the 2006/07 Sector-Specific Programme for the Medical and Health Sector (TaoYuan) on 24 Dec 2009. The project was sponsored by the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO), and jointly steered by ISIA and HKMA, in an effort to drive the e-business adoption among the SMEs in the Medical and Health Sector. The private medical practitioners (PMPs) can enhance the professional standard of the medical profession by integrating the clinic management system (CMS) with other clinic management via electronic patient information exchange and sharing

Specific Benefits to PMPs

As a free and open-source system, the CMS would provide freedom and choices as well as lower the hurdle for PMPs to adopt computerized clinical management solutions. Since the system is free, PMPs would not need to worry about the escalating licensing cost. Other benefits are:

License Free

Enable clinics to implement industry best practice

Automatic capturing of useful information for management, reporting and auditing

Structured data formats to international and local standards ensure the sharing and exchange of medical records in the future

A ready platform for delivering healthcare services and programmes such as eHealth voucher and vaccination subsidy schemes of the government

Support future integration of the PMPs on the eHR

Specific Benefits to the ICT Vendors

Clinics adopting the CMS would need to procure new or additional equipment and services from ICT vendors. This also provides ICT vendors with an opportunity to provide value-added services and enhancement. This in turn would create new or expanded business opportunities for the ICT industry, as well as making the CMS solution better
