To officially release the project flagship deliverable “Market Intelligence Analysis Result Report” booklet (covering online data from Jul 2012 – Feb 2013; incorporating the 1st and 2nd analysis report) and to introduce the Booklet to the industry, a dissemination seminar with press conference was held on 15 Apr 2013 in ICT Expo 2013 at HKCEC. The event attracted over 100 industry practitioners and reporters.

The dissemination seminar provided a completed overview on the analysis process and results. Mr. Chi Wing Kong (Chairman of the Project Organizing Committee of ISIA) highlighted the key analysis results based on the new online data collected. Mr. Reggie Wong (Chairman of ISIA) shared with the audiences the techniques and tips on analyzing consumer online comments to distill useful intelligence. In addition, Mr. Rambo Yu (Chairman of CHKCI), Mr. DK Leung (Former Chairman of CHKCI), Mr. Kevin Ng (Principal Consultant of HKPC), together with Mr. Wong, Mr. Kong and Mr. Alvin Lee (Vice Chairman of the Project Organizing Committee of ISIA), had conducted a panel discussion to interactively share further analysis details and lesson learnt with audiences. Last but not least, Mr. Lee concluded benefits brought to the consumer electronics manufacturing and retailing industry through this government-funded project, and encouraged audiences and industry practitioners visiting the project website for free downloading the result report.

 

The 3rd Roundtable Discussion Workshop (for 2nd Analysis Report)

To bring in new analysis angles and new practitioner insights into the 2nd analysis report, another roundtable discussion workshop was conducted. In the meeting, the Project Team performed ad-hoc data analysis using the Business Intelligence (BI) tool based on enquiries raised by the experts on-site. The workshop was ended with fruitful discussion results and report compiling directions. The discussion results were documented and would be used in the coming 2nd analysis report to be released in April 2013.

To officially announce the 1st Market Intelligence Analysis Result Report, and to further share the insights in the report for industry practitioner’s reference, a dissemination seminar was held on 31 Jan 2013 in HKPC Building.

The dissemination seminar provided a completed overview on the analysis process and results. Based on the new analysis angles solicited in the 1st roundtable discussion, the Project Team conducted additional analysis on the data set, resulting in some new market intelligence and insights. Another roundtable discussion workshop was thus conducted to explain the new analysis results to industry experts and association representatives. Opinions for enhancing the analysis model, and new analysis directions were collected and documented for implementing in the coming 2nd analysis report to be released in April 2013.

The Workshop was conducted to explain the preliminary market intelligence results to industry experts and association representatives. Opinions for enhancing the report and the analysis model were collected from attendants. Attendants also provided new angles on interpreting the analysis results, making the report better suit the information needs of local SMEs in electronics industry.

 


The 4th and 5th Expert Group

As part of the Expert Group series, on 25 Oct the Project Team has invited industry experts to share their ideas on the latest trends on Headphone and Smartphone accessories, and suggestions on issues to be studied related to these products. In the two 2-hour discussion sessions, numerous crucial issues related to manufacturing, retailing and marketing of the above products and potential analysis angles have been discussed. All these serve as valuable input to the analysis model building.

To better understand the topic the electronic industry interested in, and to better prepare for the development of the consumer online opinion analysis model in the subsequent project stage, the Project Team has invited over 10 industry experts to share on the above topics. Two 2-hour discussion sessions have been organized on 4 Oct, focusing on Home media center and Electronic Beauty product. The discussion was fruitful. Numerous issues related to manufacturing and retailing of the above products, topics related to the above products that are interested in, and potential analysis angles have also been discussed.

To introduce the background and benefit of this SME Development Fund Project to the industry, ISIA together with CHKCI and HKETA have organized a Discussion Forum on 19 Sep 2012. In the Forum, the speakers Mr. Chi Wing Kong (ISIA), Mr. Victor Ng (HKETA), Mr. Rambo Yu (CHKCI) and Mr. Kevin Ng (HKPC) have shared details of the Project and the latest industry situation and insights with audiences.

In the Event, Certificates of Appointment have also been presented by Mr. Nicholas Yang (Executive Vice President of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University) to industry experts as a token of appreciation. The experts have shared numerous ideas and their experience in the expert focus group series. Their sharing provides direction for the subsequent stages of the Project.

To better understand the product category and topic the electronic industry interested in, and to better prepare for the development of the consumer online opinion analysis model in the subsequent project stage, the Project Team has invited 10 industry experts to share on the above topics. The discussion was fruitful and the attendants have come up with the four electronic products (Home media center, Electronic beauty product, Headphone, and Smartphone/ tablet accessories) to be focused on in the subsequent expert groups. Potential analysis dimensions have also been discussed preliminarily, laying down the foundation for future analysis.
