Big data is not just a popular topic for discussion around the world but also becomes a mandatory competence to enterprises, societies and even countries.  Peter Sondergaard at Gartner Research said, “Information is the oil of the world and analytics is the combustion engine” and Barry Beracha at Sara Lee said, “In God we trust, all others bring data”.  While most of the major cities in Asia Pacific and the rest of the world have recognized the importance of big data and are strategically empowering their companies and societies to leverage on big data, and nurturing their big data startups, data scientists and researchers to support these strategic initiatives, Hong Kong has just started in this big data journey.  In order to stay ahead of global and regional competition in today’s digital economy, Hong Kong needs to establish ourselves to be a big data powerhouse in the region.

Hong Kong Computer Society (HKCS) and Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) will proudly host the Hong Kong Big Data Symposium 2015 on Thursday, 28 May 2015 at Charles K. Kao Auditorium of Hong Kong Science Park.  The main theme of this year’s Symposium is to nurture Hong Kong to be the leading Big Data hub in Asia Pacific.  We will gather the leaders and key stakeholders in the big data ecosystem including users, researchers, startups, data scientists and technology providers together to share their views on big data with the audiences.  In particular, we will discuss how these key stakeholders in the big data ecosystem could work together to help Hong Kong’s private and public sectors effectively leverage on big data and strategically establish Hong Kong to be a world-class big data hub in Asia Pacific.  Please join our Symposium to find out more.
